To help you prepare for your visit to Second Act we would like to offer the following suggestions.

First and foremost, please check with your insurance company to confirm your coverage prior to your visit. Many private insurance companies follow the guidelines established by Medicare but not all insurance companies do so. Therefore, it is critical that you know what your insurance company covers and what it does not. Also please confirm with them what documentation they will require in order for you to be reimbursed.

We invite you to bring a friend or family member with you, if you are comfortable doing so, as it is often helpful to have that moral support and second opinion of someone you trust. Of course if you wish to keep this "just between us" we understand. In addition to being expert at what we do, our staff understands this is a difficult time for you and will do everything in our power to make you as comfortable as possible.

If you have begun, or will soon begin, chemotherapy or radiation and have been told you will lose your hair, please make an appointment with us for a complimentary consultation before you begin losing your hair. This will give us the opportunity to discuss with you the look you want to achieve with your wig or hairpiece.

And, if possible, make an appointment with your personal hair stylist prior to your appointment with Second Act and take a picture of yourself at the conclusion of this appointment. Bring that photo with you to Second Act so we have a record of the look you want to achieve.

If you are anticipating breast surgery there are post-surgery camisole and bra products to make your return home and your first several weeks after surgery more comfortable. A visit to Second Act prior to your surgery will allow us the opportunity to provide you with these products to take with you and to wear upon your release from the hospital.

We do not recommend being fitted for your breast prosthesis or new bras until you have sufficiently healed. This is usually 6 - 8 weeks after surgery. Your healthcare professional is the best person to advise you on this. When you do come to visit us, please wear a post-surgery bra or camisole if you have it or, if not, a bra that you wore prior to the surgery. This will allow our expert fitters to more accurately measure you for your breast form and new bras. We also recommend you wear a light color, plain shirt to help you better evaluate your new look.

Perhaps your surgery was some time ago but your body shape has changed. Weight loss or gain, as well as changes attributable to age can present the need for a new size of bra or size/type of prosthesis. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and determine what best fits your current needs. Even if you simply need a few new bras we are happy to help. We will measure you to assure you are wearing the correct size and will be help you select the best ones for you.
