To help you prepare for your visit to Second Act we would like to offer the following suggestions.

In preparation for your breast surgery a visit to Second Act will allow us to fit you for the post-surgery products that will make your return home from the hospital and your first several weeks after surgery more comfortable.

When you come to see us we invite you to bring a friend or family member with you, if you are comfortable doing so, as it is often helpful to have that moral support and second opinion of someone you trust. Of course if you wish to keep this “just between us” we understand. In addition to being expert at what we do, our staff understands this is a difficult time for you and will do everything in our power to make you as comfortable as possible.

Following your surgery it is important that you be well healed before being fitted for your breast prosthesis or new bras. This is usually 6 – 8 weeks after surgery. When you do come to visit us, please wear a post-surgery bra or camisole if you have one. This will allow our expert fitters to more accurately measure you for your breast form and new bras. We recommend you wear a light color, plain shirt to help you better evaluate your new look.

We also work with many long-term survivors. Perhaps your body shape has changed, you’ve lost or gained weight, or you simply need a few new bras. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and determine what best fits your current needs.

If you will be undergoing chemotherapy and have been told you will lose your hair, we recommend you make an appointment with us for a consultation before that happens. This will help us better understand the look you want to achieve with your wig or hairpiece.

Finally, please check with your insurance company to confirm your coverage prior to your visit. Many private insurance companies follow the guidelines established by Medicare but not all insurance companies do so. Therefore, it is critical that you know what your insurance company covers and what it does not. In all cases a prescription from your doctor is required. Please confirm with your insurance company what, if any, other documentation they may require in order for you to be reimbursed.

And now a word about our location. We are conveniently located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and are easily accessible by car or public transportation. The CTA #76/Diversey bus stops at the corner of Lincoln and Diversey, just steps from our door. It also connects directly to the Diversey/Sheffield Brown Line El stop, just 3 blocks away, as well as the Blue Line and many north-to-south bus routes including the #8/Halsted, #9/Ashland, #22/Clark, #36/Broadway, #50/Damen, #151/Sheridan and #156/LaSalle buses. There is also ample street parking on Lincoln Avenue, but that does require the use of the parking pay box.  You will need a credit card or quarters for that unless you have the app.
